From the Cape Verdian Islands we will cross the ocean
for a journey along the coast of Brazil, just like Magellan. Although Magellan made a stop in the Bay of Rio de Janeiro, we will sail further to Montevideo. With more than a month at sea, there is more than enough time to assist in sail handling, helping with daily maintenance projects, sailtraining, learning about (celestial) navigation, ocean winds and currents. At night, you can admire the spectacular starry skies.

Another impressive mark during this voyage is the crossing of the Equator. When crossing this 'line' it is a ritual to honor king Neptune with an offer. In return the King himself will visit the ship and makes all pollywogs into hardened shellbacks.

Sal, Cape Verde
Sal is known as the Sunniest Island. When flying in it seems as if you are landing on a golden pearl of sand in the middle of a turquoise-blue ocean. For many years, the island was a center for salt mining, which is also where the name Sal - salt - comes from. However, the salt is almost only for local use and for tourists now.

The city of Santa Maria has developed in a lively way. With its many miles of beaches that are up to 500 feet wide, Santa Maria offers ideal conditions for a classic beach holiday. The landmark of the town with its small restaurants, stores and little pastel-colored houses is undoubtedly the weigh house on the old harbor quay, where salt was weighed in years past, and now is the site of souvenir shops. You can still see fishermen when they bring in their catch and clean it at the harbor quay, just as in the past.

Montevideo, Uruguay
Montevideo is the largest city, the capital, and the chief port of Uruguay. The settlement was established in 1726 by Bruno Mauricio de Zabala, as a strategic move amidst a Spanish-Portuguese dispute over the platine region, and as a counter to the Portuguese colony at Colonia del Sacramento.

Montevideo has a population of approximately 1,325,000 (about half of Uruguay's population). The southernmost cosmopolitan capital city in the Americas and third most southern in the world, it is situated in the southern coast of the country, on the northeastern bank of the Río de la Plata "Silver River" which is often referred to in English-speaking countries as the River Plate. According to some sources, in 2007 Montevideo provided the highest quality of life in Latin America.

Described as a vibrant, eclectic place with a rich cultural life, it is the hub of commerce and higher education in Uruguay. The architecture of Montevideo reflects its history, ranging from colonial to Art Deco, and influenced by Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and British immigrants.
