Horta, Azores Islands, Portugal
Located in the Atlantic Ocean about two hours flying time from Lisbon, Portugal, the Azores are comprised of nine volcanic islands which served as way stations for whaling fleets in the 1700's. As the whaling industry waned, the inhabitants turned to farming, and many emigrated to the United States. Horta, located on the island of Faial, is a popular tourist destination for many Europeans and is an international yacht harbor.

Be sure to visit Peter’s Café Sport, quite simply the most famous bar in the North Atlantic, having first opened its doors on the island of Faial over eighty years ago to seafarers from all over the world. Or view Caldeira do Faial, one of the main tourist sights on the island of Faial, being formed by the deep, wide crater of a volcanic cone that dominates the island.

Lisbon, Portugal
The capital of Portugal since its conquest from the Moors in 1147, Lisbon is a legendary city with over 20 centuries of history. Spreading out along the right bank of the Taugus, its downtown, the Baixa, is located in the 18th century area around Rossio. The Alfama, one of the oldest quarters in Lisbon, still retains much of its original layout since it largely survived the earthquake of 1755.
