About the Wind Star
In late 1986, the first commercial sailing vessel built in 60 years slipped out of a French dry-dock in Le Havre. Although the towering sails echoed a bygone era of explorers, the msy Wind Star, with its sleek lines and computerized controls, was revolutionary in concept and design.
Wind Star is officially a motored-sail-yacht (msy), but the designation belies the vessel's unique rigging. Unfurling in two minutes at the push of a button, billowing white sails reach to the sky. All functions are operated from the bridge by computer microchips and navigational devices. The unusual “open-bridge” operation allows guests to drop by and acquaint themselves with the veteran captains and officers who demonstrate the ship’s intriguing capabilities to modern day explorers.
Wind Star is a luxury vessel, with all that implies. The 5-star dining experience, with cuisine by renkowned chefs Joachim Splichal and Jeanne Jones, is beyond compare. Yet guests are not expected to dress up for dinner; the ambience is definitely casual. You will enjoy the gym, library, the casino if you wish, hot tubs and swimming pool, a piano bar and the lounge, sauna, onboard shops, and a watersports platform at the stern of the ship, complete with complimentary water-skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, and more. Your stateroom includes a color television, VCR & CD players, personal safe for your valuables, refrigerator and mini-bar, a direct dial phone for overseas calls, and plush bathrobes. And the cabin service is impeccable. You will lack for no creature comforts on Wind Star!
