About the Liberty Star Liberty Star is a traditional gaff-rigged, two-masted wooden schooner, a true Maine-built Windjammer. She carries 2,500 square feet of sail, has a diesel engine for auxiliary power, and a new generator for 110 volt electrical power. Purchased recently from a private owner in Maine, who had sailed her extensively around the globe with his family, she is just 67 feet, length overall, and seaworthy enough for long ocean passages. Liberty Star has been lovingly refit for service in the British Virgin Islands, with two upper & lower berth cabins, and a deluxe cabin with a full-sized double bed, all with opening skylights, and lots of varnished wood detailing. The cabin area is air conditioned.
Liberty Star's itineraries will be fairly flexible depending on wind & currents, and a Captain knowledgeable about the best anchorages and watering holes in the BVI. Each day you will awake to a home-cooked breakfast on the world famous sailing waters of the Virgin Islands. You'll have the opportunity to help the crew sail the ship by raising sails or even taking a turn at the helm under the careful supervision of our experienced US Coast Guard licensed captain.
The Virgin Islands were made for sailing, you will get underway for a new beach or port each day, sometime two a day! When anchored, you will have access to our two-person kayak and our snorkeling gear. There is ample seating on deck, and you'll always find a quiet place to relax and enjoy the sailing. There is a bar service for beer, wine and cocktails. Each night you will be at anchor, for dinner in the salon, and for a restful night’s sleep.
