About the Schooner Heritage
Launched in 1983, Heritage is the newest passenger schooner along the Maine coast. Designed & built by Captains Doug and Linda Lee at the historic North End Shipyard in Rockland, Maine, the project took a year of planning and four years of construction, sailing during the summer and working on Heritage during the off-season. She was built along the lines of traditional schooners that navigated off the coast of Maine more than a hundred years ago. She is a big, powerful, wonderful, stable vessel, with plenty of deck space for everyone.
Both Captains Doug and Linda, will be aboard with you. They sail on all the voyages as your captains and hosts. You will enjoy a memorable sailing experience, meet new friends who enjoy sailing as you do, and go for a scenic voyage around the beautiful islands and harbors of "DownEast" Maine. You can go for a row, explore the beach or just relax and enjoy the scenery after a day's sail. After we drop anchor off a picturesque harbor you can go ashore to explore a seaside village, do some shopping or walk out to a lighthouse on a point of land. There is no set itinerary; we just sail where the wind and tide take us. And at least once, you’ll enjoy an all-you-can-eat lobster bake on a deserted beach.
Many details were designed into Heritage specifically for your comfort. Full headroom below decks means you don’t need to stoop while in your cabin; stairs instead of ladders make it easier going below; skylights let sunlight brighten below deck compartments, and a spacious galley accommodates all guests and crew during meals and serves as a comfortable retreat at other times.
