  1. How is a sailing vacation different from a traditional cruise?

Sailing ship vacations offer an intimate experience of wind and wave, marine life and ship operations. You can even participate in the sailing of many of the ships in Our Fleet. There is much less formality aboard sailing ships than on the typical cruise liner. You will come to know and make friends with Captains and crew members, as well as your fellow shipmates, on many of these ships. Sailing ship vacations also offer opportunities to visit smaller, more engaging ports of call that large cruise lines cannot access.

  2. How is Sailing Ship Adventures different from my local travel agent?

Sailing Ship Adventures has in-depth knowledge of the range and types of sailing vacations available and is therefore able to find the right sailing vacation for you. Most travel agents deal with just a few travel providers when booking cruises. Sailing Ship Adventures represents a great variety of sailing ships in destinations around the world.

  3. How many vessels does Sailing Ship Adventures represent?

Sailing Ship Adventures represents over 100 vessels from around the world. Not all these ships are available on this Web site at present. We will continue to add vessels each week.

  4. What should I expect on a sailing vacation?

We represent a wide range of sailing vacation providers and vessels and each offers a different vacation experience, ranging from the relaxed casual atmosphere aboard a Windjammer Barefoot cruise to the majestic grandeur of the Royal Clipper. Some ships have luxurious suites and fine cuisine to accommodate you. Other ships are more Spartan, with individual private berths, shared bathroom facilities, and simpler, yet wholesome meals.

Some itineraries offer ports of call with lively nightlife, or botanical gardens, or sites of historical or cultural interest. Other voyages focus on out of the ordinary, even out of the way, ports or remote islands, with beachcombing, bird watching, or snorkeling as activities. Ask for what you want and we’ll find it for you.

  5. How many people will be on the ship with me?

We book passages on vessels that carry between 6 and 300 passengers. We can also arrange for smaller vessels and more intimate voyages upon request.

  6. What types of activities are offered on sailing vacations?

One of the main attractions of a sailing vacation is the easy access to water sports like fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling and wind surfing. Some of our larger vessels offer more traditional cruise activities like dancing, fine dining and evening entertainment. On still others, you can learn about how to sail a tall ship.

  7. Will I get seasick?

Seasickness is seldom a problem aboard large sailing ships. The wind pressing on the sails prevents much of the rolling motion that is usually the cause of seasickness. If you are extra sensitive, consult your physician about a patch or one of the many over the counter products available.

  8. Do I have to work onboard?

Not unless you choose to. On many of the vessels in Our Fleet you will be invited to help sail the ship, to take your turn at the helm, or help hoist the sails. A few of our vessels are classified as sail training ships, and passengers are expected to take part in the regular watch rotation. We even offer special voyages for people who would like to learn how to navigate these magnificent vessels.

  9. Where is Sailing Ship Adventures located?
