Sailing along the Leelanau peninsula in beautiful Grand Traverse Bay, Michigan, an arm of Lake Michigan in the Great Lakes.

Traverse City, Michigan
Traverse City calls itself the Cherry Capital of the World. Situated on Grand Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan, on the northwest coast of Michigan's lower peninsula, Traverse City is the 2nd most popular tourist destination in the state (after Mackinaw City). In addition to cherries, the surrounding countryside produces grapes, and is one of the midwest's centers of wine production. Freshwater beaches, a mild summer climate, golf resorts, the nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and thousands of square miles of surrounding forests make Traverse City a great destination area.

Grand Traverse Bay, Michigan
Grand Traverse Bay is a bay of Lake Michigan formed by the Leelanau Peninsula in the northwestern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The bay is 32 miles long, 10 mi wide, and up to 620 feet deep in spots. It is divided into two arms (East Arm & West Arm) by the long, thin Old Mission Peninsula.

Traverse City is situated at the south end of the bay where the Boardman River empties into the west arm. Cherry orchards line the bay region, giving rise to Traverse City's claim to be the Cherry Capital of the World.

Grand Traverse Bay includes several important smaller bays: Northport Bay, Suttons Bay, Omena Bay, Bowers Harbor, and Old Mission Bay.
