Boston Harbor
Boston, the capital and largest city in Massachusetts, and one of the oldest cities in the United States, is the economic and cultural center of New England. The city proper has a population over 600 thousands, and anchors the larger metropolitan area of Greater Boston with a population over 4 million people.

Puritan colonists from England founded the city in 1630. During the American Revolution Boston was the scene of several historic events, including the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the battles of Lexington and Concord.

After independence, Boston became a major port and manufacturing center.

Since its discovery by John Smith in 1614,[2] Boston Harbor has been an important port in American history. It was the site continuous back filling of the harbor until the 19th century.

By 1660 almost all imports came to the greater Boston area and the New England coast through the waters of Boston Harbor. A rapid influx of people transformed Boston into a booming city.

Gloucester, Massachusetts
Gloucester is situated on the north shore of Massachusetts. The town was an important shipbuilding center, and developed into an important fishing port, because of its proximity to Georges Bank and the Grand Banks off the east coast of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. In addition to continuing as a center for catching and processing seafood, Gloucester is a center for fish research.

Seafaring and fishing have always been, and still are very dangerous undertakings. The movie The Perfect Storm illustrates just how hazardous a livelihood it is. Gloucester has lost over 10,000 men to the briny depths of the Atlantic Ocean in the 350 years since its founding. The names of those known lost as are known are painted on a huge mural in City Hall, and also on a new memorial cenotaph on Stacy Boulevard.
