About the Mystic Whaler Mystic Whaler was built in 1967 as a reproduction of a late 19th century coastal cargo schooner. She is steel-hulled, two-masted, and gaff-rigged, with 3,000 square feet of sails. Mystic Whaler's warm interior features Italian oak floors and fir wainscoting with mahogany accents.
Her modern amenities include 3 shared bathrooms and 3 private ensuite bathrooms in Clipper Cabins, all with hot showers. She meets or exceeds all Coast Guard standards for safety; she has an auxiliary diesel engine and generator and a full array of navigational equipment.
Mystic Whaler is a sail training ship, a member of Tall Ships America, doing environmental education programs on the Hudson River in the spring, two to five-night voyages from New London, Connecticut in the summer, and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay in the fall, participating in the annual Great Chesapeake Bay schooner race.
