About the Tecla Tecla is a sturdy, ocean-going, steel-hulled ketch, gaff-rigged and flying topsails on both masts. She was built in Holland in 1915 as a fishing boat. Originally named Graaf van Limburg Stirum, she was later converted by new Danish owners to a freighter with her current name.
In the 1980's she returned to Holland and was re-fitted as a sail training vessel. Now owned by a family of four, she is one of the most original and striking sail training vessels in Europe.
Trainees from all over the world come on board to learn near-shore and offshore sailing and navigation. Tecla has successfully competed in Tall Ships Races in Europe, even coming first in her class. She sailed across the Atlantic and returned in the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge of 2009, and is currently sailing round the world in company with Oosterschelde and Europa, two well-known Dutch ships.
