About the Mercantile
The well-loved Mercantile is often referred to as the "Prettiest coaster on the Bay." She was built in 1916, and has been a familiar sight in many local ports for over 80 years. A shoal-draft vessel, she can explore secluded ports including some that she originally served as a cargo vessel. During a total restoration in 1989, the Mercantile was refit with a new galley and accommodations while maintaining her authentic character. She has been recognized as a National Landmark.
We are committed to giving our passengers the finest and most genuine traditional sailing experience available today. Enjoy the serenity and camaraderie of a simpler time aboard Mercantile. The power of wind and water moving us is an uplifting, almost spiritual experience. Our actual course, however, will be determined by each day's wind and weather, and no two trips are exactly alike. You'll participate in sailing, and enjoy seeing wildlife swimming in the water and soaring on the wind. You'll capture gorgeous scenery along the rock-bound coast, row ashore to explore islands, go swimming if you wish, and experience joys you hadn't imagined.
